Yes, talk of a barrage balloon getting loose isn't anything new, nor do I discount the anecdote, as I believe our guys were pretty much shooting at anything that moved at the time, believing that this was the beginning of " the attack" on the mainland. However, that doesn't account for a much larger object first picked up on radar off the coast, moving westward, coming in over land, changing course, moving slightly inland paralleling the coastline, then changing course before moving back out to sea, all the while being fired upon with 3" AA rounds which it seemed to be impervious to.
